Patients in Ibn Sina Hospital in Mosul and death of my colleague

Who said studying medicine is easy? Oh it is very hard, when I see those patients in the Ibn Sina Hospital in Mosul and what they suffer from, I feel so sorry for them, Its this health that they lost, which is the most important thing we own. Most of the patients in Ibn Sina Hospital are from low social state, they need special care and attention, and as I study there I always see new faces comes in and I have seen more than 3 patients died in front of me, but nothing I can do I am still a student (but more than half a doctor).
To you Israa , Allah

A couple weeks ago a colleague of me (Israa) died when she had a terrible accident, she was full of energy and just like a flower in spring, but she died and I cried and cried. It is not easy to accept death of someone you know whether she/he was close to you or not, it reminds me of death and that one day I will die and this makes me want to cry but my faith in Allah brings me back to life again and remind me to work hard and to keep on my praying five times per day and to commit to Allah orders.

I will always remember you Israa (Allah mercy for her)

Seeking for inner peace in Mosul City, But Where ?

Iraq is big prison and I can't wait till I escape from it!! This is totally right and I am feeling of tightness and freedom-less with little (if any) human rights. Every thing disturbs me, from the traffic jam to kidnapping gangs. Especially Mosul city, they are trying to keep people of Mosul city busy with providing enough Gasoline and kerosene in this cold winter.

To make people unable to think what is going on in this City, we are tired of the blocked streets,

9 of april 2010 in history of Iraq

Its friday 9 of april 2010 and it is holiday in Iraq and all arabic countries and we have changeable weather here in Iraq this week but now it is clear with cool winds that make everyone feels better, however this day carry sad memory to all Iraqi people since it remind them with the memoir of the War on Iraq in 2003/4/9 and how many people in Iraq loss members of their families from that day till this hour and the count is still on, and especially after the election day in Iraq on 7 of march 2010 when more that 62% of Iraqis give there votes for the persons whom they thought they will be good for Iraq but till now and even after announcement of the results of the elections nothing changed and I am talking on personal side in my city more concrete barrier placed to close the main streets and sub-streets in the city which make very big traffic jam and many many accident all over the day because of these barriers (placed by the army force) and now they are using walls of concrete (2.5 meter high) and this is so terrible and make everyone gets nervous and hypertensive quickly.

see the barriers at the left blocking the entery to hospital from one side
barriers
here the barriers is in the middle and blocking a street near the hospital
barriersthis is how I see things from my point that all these explodes happening now is for political reasons and to keep the army under control of certain persons "with power" to make anything.

Mosul city 2010 before elections

Mosul city-Iraq , 26/02/2010 at 7:30 am there was car loaded (as I heard) with explosives in front of Mosul Medical College in Mosul city in Iraq and I had practical exam in parasitology yesterday which must be done at the time with no delay. The police men told people around the college to get out of that place so they can explode the car with no damage and at 10:15 am they explode it and it didn't make load sound not like sudden car explosions with no damage and no harm to any one.

I want to tell you that there is something abnormal going on Mosul city that all christian people had left the city to the countryside and especially to (Al-Hamdanya village) because they had been threatened by mysterious persons who came to disturb the election in Mosul city and to put fear in Mosul city people's hearts.

Living and hating war and any related stuffs in Mosul

If you want to live in Mosul city you will need you will get used on to be unprotected and with out any means of human rights. Last tuesday on 2/2/2010 at 3:45 am a group of Iraqi army where striking heavily on our front door, we wake up and where frightened and we expected a big catastrophe, dad went downstairs and he opened the door and there was 6 tall army men standing at the door and other 20 man doing the same thing to the neighbours barely I wake up on my sister voice shouting get up and I quickly wore my hijab.
Can you imagine that, I guess no..
These army men where just asking for the IDs of the families and nothing else they were looking at each ID card and if there was a son in the family they wanted to know,
my little brother (7years old)was sleeping and he we didn't woke him when the army know that we have a son and dad told them he is just a kid and my dad showed them his ID they didn't believe and they went to his room and opened their lights on him then quickly left the house he woke up frightened and saying "is there was an army in my bed room!!!!!"
can't they wait till 7 am of even 6 am and then do what they want. While the government him self said there wouldn't be any searching of houses after 7 pm till 6 am of every day.
it looks like they are (young men hunters) if they found and boy or man (16 years - 40 years ) they might take him with out any declarations just because they want.
This is really miserable life that nobody deserve to life in fear of being catched "wrongly" for couple of weeks without any fault.!!!!
This is the 3rd time since 1/1/2010 this happened in parts of the city.
This is not fair really I began hating living in Iraq.
As I heard the Iraqi army was at its best state between 1975 - 2003 and now it is replace be group of worthless men that some of them even don't know reading and writing and some of them use his power to offence people in the road, hit anyone at any time with no reason, speaking badly ant any one, even stealing money while searching houses and now every thing begin to be clear that there is persons inside the military that accused with dealing with terrorists and kidnapping and also stealing banks in Iraq.

I have good news about Dr. Muzahim Al Khayat dean of mosul medical college had recovered but he still have some complaints ( to know about whats happened to Dr. Muzahim Al Khayat visit this post and see the comments )This week was amazing I went to Ibn Sina hospital in mosul (General hospital) to take history from some patients and communicate with them. I needed to go to the 5 floor and saw young girl has renal failure and she is only 16 year old, she lives in small village, when she was 4 years old she lost both of here kidneys due to polluted water and she got new kidney from here mother, but now her body is rejecting the kidney and she has to do dialysis every week.

I asked her if has ever gone to school and she said that she had been left the school when she was 11 years old because of her disease. Also she had hypertension due to her renal failure because the kidney isn't functioning well. I tried to make her smile anyhow and to make her feel better.

I met another old woman (80years old) who suffer from her heart, she had angina from 3 months and she was refusing to come to the hospital because she afraid from needles, I was with my friend and we were talking to this old woman and she was very welcoming.

Eid al fitr start after ramadan month end. It is 3 days, Eid al fitr remarks that the muslims had completed the fasting ( which is 30 or 29 fasting days according to sight of crescent ). Eid al Fitr is also called ( small eid ), people wearing new beautiful clothes and greeting each others with finishing the fasting. The common greeting ( Blessed Eid ) or ( happy eid) and wishing happiness to every one.

at the first morning ( 7:20 am ) all muslim men go to mosque to do Eid prayer and when they come back to home after an hour all the family members are awake and have prepaired the breakfast and the children waiting for "edania" ( parents give money for the children so they go to buy toys and chocolates and to go to blay in see saw and to have fun.

Then the family goes to the grandfathers house and gathering with the relatives and having good time, the grandfathers give children money also.

And the family visits the relatives and builds happy bonds between families. This what give the Eid its flavor of happiness and joy.

The family had been rent house for $100/month but now they didn't have enough money to rent the house so the lessor kicked them out of the house with no place they can go to.

The family monthly income is too few dollars and have have no place to sleep so the went to sleep in the hospital but the kicked of the hospital after 4 days from being sleep in the hospital and then they went to sleep in mosque till they have money to rent house.

I am really very sad on this family and I gave the family few dollars (from my spending money since I still student with no income) and neighbours collected money to give the family place to sleep in.
so If anyone intend to help this family anyhow you can give them money or any thing .

30 of June 2009 in history

Today 30 of June 2009 ,

I woke up at morning on the sounds of cars in the street , the government considered this day as a national holiday so all my family was in the house , people were celebrating in the street , and exactly at 9:01 am the helicopters were throwing clippings in the air on the streets of mosul and I was able to see them brightly , but it was two streets away from the house and it said that they contain a " congratulation speech " from the chief of ministers of Iraq .

This is the first day in Mosul city that we wouldn't see any soldier in the city , this would be very good .

People were celebrating at the streets and some was serving-out candies and juice to the people in the streets and some were putting on an national songs in the cars.

Actually the american army didn't quit from the city finally but they still around the city of Mosul but not inside it .

Mosul dam : danger of collapse

Iraq's largest dam is in danger of collapsing and killing tens of thousands of people in a massive flood, according to a US report. It is formerly known as Saddam Dam. The US inspector for Iraq reconstruction on Tuesday said a $27m US project had not improved the Mosul Dam on the Tigris river in northern Iraq, which could buckle under water pressure and let loose a 20-metre wave. The report from Stuart Bowen, the special inspector-general for Iraqi construction, cited assessments by the US army corps of engineers, which called the current probability of dam failure "exceptionally high". His report also included a letter to Nuri al-Maliki, Iraq's prime minister, from the US ambassador to Iraq and the chief US military commander, which said: "A catastrophic failure of the Mosul Dam would result in flooding along the Tigris river all the way to Baghdad."
The dam was completed in 1984, but it was built on soluble soils that move and create cavities under the dam and its banks. Those cavities must be grouted to prevent collapsing.

Iraq Military Commander Survives Suicide Bomb Attack

BAGHDAD — Violence claimed the lives of at least 20 Iraqis on Wednesday, including eight who were killed in a suicide attack against Iraq’s top military commander in the northern city of Mosul. The commander escaped unharmed.
A suicide bomber detonated his car outside a regional traffic police building in Mosul, where Lt. Gen. Riyadh Jalal Tawfiq, the chief of the Iraqi military command for the city, was holding a meeting. General Tawfiq was not hurt, but five of the eight killed were civilians, and 41 people were wounded, including seven of his bodyguards, Iraqi officials said.
Mosul, home to many former military officers loyal to Saddam Hussein, continues to be violent as attacks in much of Iraq have declined. An aggressive sweep of the city by the American military and the Iraqi Army in the spring brought the number of attacks down, but violence still flares.

Few jobs, lots of trouble in mosul

MOSUL, Iraq (AP) — Five years ago this month, Paul Wolfowitz, then the Pentagon's second-ranking official, dropped in on this northern city to take its temperature. He walked the streets, chatted with locals and came to a quick conclusion: The people here had grown impatient with post-invasion chaos.
"The biggest problem is people need jobs," Wolfowitz told an accompanying reporter, adding, "Some people (Iraqis) think that because we're the United States, we can fix things right away. We can't."
It seems he was right on both counts.
Lack of employment was a problem here in the earliest days of the post-invasion period, before Wolfowitz and the Bush administration were willing to acknowledge that an insurgency was brewing. And it remains a problem today, when the insurgency is still active, though not fighting as effectively in Mosul.
Jobs are still key, as another senior Pentagon official heard Tuesday when he dropped in. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was told that Ninevah province, of which Mosul is the capital, has an estimated jobless rate of 50 percent to 60 percent and few bright prospects for foreign investment.
"I see it again in Mosul: the inability of the Iraqi government to spend money ... and generate jobs," Mullen said in an Associated Press interview. "And that's got to be done."
Without economic progress and political accommodation among competing sects, "then I'm not sure that security makes that much difference" to the ultimate outcome of the search for lasting stability, he added.
Frederick Kagan, a military historian and an Iraq watcher at the American Enterprise Institute, said in an interview Tuesday in Baghdad that he thinks the economic problem can be exaggerated in some respects. He believes that as security improves in Iraq, economic prospects will improve with time.
"What we've seen generally is that whenever the bombing stops, we start to see the economy pick up, and we're seeing that, even in Mosul," said Kagan, who visited the city on Monday. "There is economic life in the city. It is starting to come back."
It's got a long way to go.
Wolfowitz was here on July 21, 2003, a time of hope amid uncertainty about the prospects for a real peace. He walked through a main street without body armor, a baseball cap on his head. One day later, the U.S. military announced that it had killed Saddam Hussein's two fugitive sons, Odai and Qusai, in their Mosul hide-out — adding to a sense of optimism about the war, though it soon slipped away.
At that point the lead commander in northern Iraq was David Petraeus, then a two-star general. Petraeus has since added two stars and is the soon-to-depart commander of all U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq.
Several times since 2003, Mosul has tilted toward and away from stability, into and out of a desperate fight for power and resources. In late 2004, after Sunni Arab insurgents were driven out of their primary stronghold in Fallujah, they rose up in Mosul and thousands of Iraqi police abandoned their posts.
The Americans then reasserted control in 2005 and by December, President Bush was declaring in a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations that "freedom is taking hold in Mosul," with Iraqis back in charge.
The troubles were not over, however. Through 2006, there was a stalemate between the Sunni Arab population in western Mosul, which largely tolerated or supported al-Qaida in Iraq and other Sunni insurgent groups, and the mostly Kurdish army forces on the east side of the city, which is divided by the Tigris River.
By mid-2007, the senior American commander in northern Iraq, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon, was recommending that Ninevah province be returned to Iraqi government control. By autumn, however, the picture was turning darker once again. It became clear to Mixon's successor, Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, that al-Qaida and other insurgents had gained a stronger grip in western Mosul and had to be confronted.
This year the Iraqis have led the way in clearing western Mosul of hostile forces, and now the city seems to be back on track: violence has fallen sharply, Iraqi forces are growing and the expectation of provincial elections across Iraq is holding out hope for new political accommodations here.
And, still, there is the jobs problem.
Mike Hankey, head of a multi-agency U.S. team that is working on nonmilitary aspects of stabilizing Ninevah province, said the roots of economic malaise were set during Saddam's rule, when the central government subsidized the agriculture industry by providing farmers with fuel, fertilizer and seed.
"The current government of Iraq doesn't do that anymore, and that is a big shock to farmers here," Hankey said in an interview Tuesday. On a hopeful note, he said many of the province's 75,000 farm families have begun banding together to form cooperatives to pool resources and address common problems. That, in turn, is creating bonds between tribes that once were on unfriendly terms, he said.
